Wedding Reception Program Flow: Sample Timeline (Philippines)
Wednesday, July 8, 2026
Quick answer
A Philippine wedding reception program usually runs: welcome, opening prayer, parents and sponsors, entourage and couple's entrance, dances, cake cutting, dinner, speeches, optional games and money dance, parents' message, thank-you and closing. Our sample takes three to three and a half hours.
A Philippine wedding reception follows a familiar order: welcome, prayer, parents and sponsors, entourage, the couple's entrance, dances, cake, dinner, speeches, optional games, parents' message and closing. Below is that order as a minute-by-minute run sheet, a shorter version, a printable program you can paste into a document, and a blank template. Every time is a sample, not a rule. Move things around for your venue, your caterer and your guest count.
The full flow: a sample run sheet of about three hours

The order broadly follows the sequence in Bride and Breakfast's reception guideline: welcome, entourage, the couple, dances, cake and toast, prayer, dinner, videos, speeches, games, parents' message, same-day edit and thank-yous. That guide says the cake cutting and toast can also go after the meal, so the run sheet is one valid option. The minutes are our own allotments.
Where published programs disagree

|---|---|---|
| Cake cutting and toast | Either before or after the meal (Bride and Breakfast) | Cake after dinner, best man's toast after it (Kasal.com) |

| Father of the bride | Parents' message later (Bride and Breakfast) | Speech before the meal (Kasal.com) |
| Toasts | Champagne toast before or after the meal (Bride and Breakfast) | Halfway through the meal, Imperial Palace advises |

Kasal.com's reception script guide runs welcome, prayer, introductions, father's speech, dinner, cake, best man's toast, first dance, tosses, the couple's message and closing. The sources differ, so choose one order and tell every supplier. For the cake itself, our wedding cake flavors and tasting guide covers choosing flavors and booking a tasting. If you keep the 8:40 games slot, this list of reception games has 20 options with player counts and props.

For the actual words the host says on the microphone, use the wedding emcee script. The entourage duties guide explains who stands where at the entrance. To choose the song for each entrance, dance and cue, use our wedding songs list, which follows the same program order. If you have not booked the music yet, our DJ vs live band guide compares who can cover each slot, and our lights and sounds guide lists the equipment behind the microphone and music cues.
Who needs a copy of the run sheet
| Person | What they need from it |
|---|---|
| Host or emcee | Full order, names to read, cues |
| DJ or band | Song for each entrance and dance |
| Caterer | Dinner start time and when to clear plates |
| Videographer and photographer | Cake cutting, speeches, dances |
| AV operator | Video files and their slots |
| Speakers | Their slot and time limit |
Timing rules that keep the evening on track
- Anchor to fixed points. Note your venue end time, the caterer's service time and sunset if you want outdoor photos, then build around them. Buffet and plated service need different staffing and space; the reception menu and catering guide compares them.
- Add buffer. Keep about ten minutes of slack in the middle of the evening rather than at the end.
- Cap the speeches. Ask each speaker for two or three minutes, and brief them beforehand; the maid of honor speech guide, best man speech guide and groom and bride speech guide help them stay short.
- Give the money dance its own slot. The tradition, described on Wikipedia, has guests pinning money on the couple while dancing, so it takes real time. Our guide to what guests can expect at a Filipino wedding explains it from the guest side.
- Keep touch-ups close. Have one person carry the wedding survival kit into the reception, so a loose hem or a headache does not hold up the program.
- Point guests to the right place. A seating chart at the door and numbered tables cut the shuffle before dinner; the wedding signs checklist covers what else to post.
- Leave dinner alone. Play soft background music and keep announcements out of the main course.
- Share it early. The invitation's event cards show guests the start time and venue, so keep the detailed run sheet for your suppliers, host and speakers.
Choose an order, print one copy per key person, and keep a ten-minute buffer. The rest of the evening takes care of itself.
Frequently asked questions
What is the flow of a wedding reception program?
Guests are seated and the host welcomes everyone, then a prayer is said and the parents and sponsors are acknowledged. The entourage and the couple enter, followed by dances, cake cutting, dinner, speeches, optional games, the parents' message, the couple's thank-you and the closing.
How long should a wedding reception program be?
Our sample runs about three hours without its optional segments (money dance, games and same-day edit) and about three and a half hours with them, and dinner is the longest block. A smaller reception can be cut to about two hours by dropping the games, the video segments and the money dance.
What happens first at a wedding reception?
Guests find their seats, and the host or emcee welcomes everyone. A prayer and the acknowledgment of the parents and principal sponsors usually come next, before the entourage and the newlyweds make their entrance.
When should the cake cutting happen?
There is no single rule. Bride and Breakfast says the cake cutting and champagne toast can take place either before or after the meal, while Kasal.com puts the cake after dinner. Pick the spot that suits your caterer and photographer.
When do the speeches happen at a Filipino wedding reception?
Most programs place the best man, maid of honor and other speeches after dinner. Some hosts add the bride's father to speak before the meal, and parents' messages tend to come later in the program.
Who gives the welcome remarks at a wedding reception?
The host or emcee gives the welcome. Kasal.com describes the emcee welcoming everyone, including the bride and groom, and a coordinator or a hired host can do the same.
Is the money dance part of the reception program?
It is optional. Bride and Breakfast's sequence does not include it, and Wikipedia describes it as guests dancing with the couple while pinning money on them. If you include it, give it its own slot of about ten minutes so it does not squeeze the speeches.
