Wedding Invitation Mistakes to Avoid: 21 Checks Before You Send
Tuesday, September 1, 2026
Quick answer
On a link invitation most mistakes are cheap: times, venue details, names and dress code update on the same link after you send it. Three are costly: a second change to the invitation's web address is impossible, details typed into chat messages cannot be edited, and unpublishing hides the page.
Most invitation-mistake lists say "check the spelling" and treat every error as equally bad. On a link invitation they are not. You can fix a wrong dress code in ten seconds after two hundred people opened it. You cannot fix the web address of the page itself. Imbitasyon Ko's FAQ says changes appear instantly at the same link. The tables below group 21 mistakes by what you can still do about each one.

The 21 mistakes, grouped by what you can still do
The Juan Carlo catering blog puts the print problem plainly: "It can be very costly to produce plenty of hard copies only to find little mistakes." A link moves most of those mistakes from expensive to trivial. "Address" below means the venue's street address. The invitation's own link is its "web address".
Edit on the same link
| # | Mistake | After you send |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Wrong event time, or the default 2:00 PM ceremony or 6:00 PM reception left in place | Edit; the live page updates |
| 2 | No end time, so the page prints "onwards" | Edit |
| 3 | Wrong venue name or street address | Edit |
| 4 | A map link that was dropped, so the button searches your venue name instead of your pin | Edit |
| 5 | A misspelled parent, sponsor or entourage name, or a Jr. on the wrong generation | Edit |
| 6 | No dress code or motif colors | Add the field |
| 7 | An opening type that does not match the ceremony | Edit |
| 8 | A theme or colors that are hard to read on a phone (our advice: check in daylight) | Change the theme or colors |
Plan limits and guest links
| # | Mistake | After you send |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | More than 10 entourage entries on Free | Upgrade or shorten the list |
| 10 | Gift details, music or love story on Free; a live stream link below Premium | Upgrade; guests see nothing meanwhile |
| 11 | A paid theme chosen on Free | The first publish is refused; a live page keeps a free theme |
| 12 | A pasted guest batch that would pass 20 links on Free | The whole batch is refused |
| 13 | A pasted guest list left at the default 2 seats each | Edit each guest's seats before sending |
| 14 | A forwarded general link where the guest needed a personal one | Send the personal link |
| 15 | A guest left off the list | Add them and send their link late |
No clean undo, and process
| # | Mistake | After you send |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | A second change to the invitation's web address after publishing | Not possible |
| 17 | Date, venue or time typed into the chat message | Cannot be edited once sent |
| 18 | Unpublishing to make edits | Guests see nothing until you republish |
| 19 | No save-the-date, or the invitation sent late | Send it now; see the timing table below |
| 20 | An RSVP deadline chosen without your caterer's cut-off | Re-message guests; the page has no deadline field |
| 21 | Proofing the editor or preview instead of the live page | The plan limits only show live |
Rows 1 to 8 are chores. Rows 16 to 18 are decisions you make once.
What the page fills in for you
Some classic errors cannot happen, because you never type that part. Spend your proofing time on the rest.
| What you enter | What guests see | The mistake it removes |
|---|---|---|
| A calendar date | The weekday, month, day and year in full | A date and weekday that disagree |
| A start time | A 12-hour time with AM or PM | "6:00" with no AM or PM |
| A start time and no end | The start followed by "onwards" | An end time you made up |
| Nothing about time zones | No time zone label | "PHT" printed for local guests |
The weekday is computed from the date, so a Sunday cannot show as "Saturday" on the page, though it can in a message you type by hand. Every venue is in one time zone, so guests abroad get the conversion in your message; see inviting guests abroad.
The map is the quiet one (row 4). A link that is not a valid http(s) address is saved as blank, with no error; the editor only flags the field. The button still shows, but it opens a Google Maps search for your venue name and address, which may land on the wrong branch. Open the live page and press it. The steps for a pin that resolves are in how to add a Google Maps location.
Three mistakes with no clean undo
The web address (row 16). After publishing, the invitation's web address can be changed once. The editor says so: "The address can only be changed once after publishing." Links already sent to the old address redirect to the new one, but there is no second change, and anything printed or screenshotted still shows the old address. Choose it before the first send. A venue's street address, by contrast, stays editable.
Facts in the message (row 17). The share message the product builds carries the two of you, a line of invitation and the link, with no date, venue or time. Your own saved templates take two placeholders, {name} and {link}. If you paste "November 22, 3:00 PM at San Agustin" into a hundred threads and the ceremony moves to 4:00 PM, the page updates and the hundred messages do not.
Unpublishing (row 18). You can republish, but guests who open the link meanwhile see nothing. The confirmation reads: "Guests who open your link won't see the invitation until you publish again. Your content is kept." Edit in place instead.
Who is invited is settled by which link you send
A "bring anyone you like" typed into a chat message cannot be retracted, but the seat counts on the page can be edited. Each guest's personal link carries their own seat count, and the RSVP form offers numbers only up to it.
| Link | Seats the guest can confirm | Where it goes wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Added one by one | The number you pick; 2 is preselected | Leaving the 2 |
| A pasted list of names | 2 each | A family of seven can confirm only 2 |
| A CSV import | The pax column, 1 to 10 | A blank pax becomes 2 |
| A general link with no name | Up to 4 | A forwarded link |
So the plus-one question is settled by which link you send to whom, not by how you phrase the message. Set the counts before the first send; our plus-one policy guide has the decision table, and adults-only wording covers a child-free wedding.
What Free hides from guests but not from you
The editor and preview show everything you entered. The live page applies your plan.
| What you entered | Editor and preview | A guest on Free |
|---|---|---|
| 40 entourage entries | All 40 | The first 10 entered, across all groups |
| Gift or e-wallet details | The section | Nothing; Standard and up |
| Background music, love story | Both | Nothing; Standard and up |
| Live stream link | The link | Nothing; Premium only |
| Nothing | No band | A bottom band: "Made with ♥ on Imbitasyon Ko — Create yours free" |
The entourage row is the one to check first. Free shows the first ten and stops, with no "and more". Standard (₱499) and Premium (₱999), both one-time, show the whole list. Personal links and gallery photos also cap on Free, but they stop you at your desk: a pasted batch that would pass 20 is refused with an error. The entourage and plan-section rows above do not announce themselves.
| Limit | Free | Standard | Premium | Where you notice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal guest links | 20 | No cap | No cap | An error when you add them |
| Gallery photos | 2 | 15 | 30 | The editor stops at the limit |
| Entourage entries shown | 10 | All | All | Nowhere; the live page just cuts |
Where Philippine advice differs on deadlines
Neither source is wrong; they recommend different lead times.
| Juan Carlo | Bride and Breakfast | |
|---|---|---|
| Send invitations | "two to three months prior" | The RSVP is "usually sent out at least six to eight weeks before the wedding" |
| RSVP deadline | "a month before the wedding" | "at least one month (or four weeks) before your wedding day" |
| Save-the-date | Not covered | "eight to twelve months ahead" is possible |
Bride and Breakfast gives the reason: vendors typically require a final headcount around that time. It adds a final deadline "at least two weeks before your wedding", after which a non-responder can be marked as not attending. Our advice: get your caterer's cut-off in writing and work backwards. Imbitasyon Ko has no deadline field, so the date lives in text you type, such as the closing note. Our guides to save-the-date wording, when to send and RSVP follow-up cover the count.
After you have avoided these
This page tells you which errors happen. The proofreading checklist tells you how to check each field against its source. Names and titles have their own rules in how to write names on an invitation, and the sponsor block is in entourage layout samples.
Frequently asked questions
What wedding invitation mistakes should you check before sending?
Wrong or default event times, misspelled parent and sponsor names, a map link that does not point at your venue, and an RSVP deadline set without your caterer's cut-off. On a link invitation you can edit all of these after sending. You cannot make a second change to the invitation's web address or edit details typed into chat messages.
Can you edit a digital wedding invitation after you send it?
Yes. Imbitasyon Ko's own FAQ says changes appear instantly at the same link. What you cannot change afterwards is a message you already sent. The share message carries no date, venue or time, so keep every fact on the page.
How many times can you change the web address of your Imbitasyon Ko invitation?
Once after publishing. Links already sent to the old web address redirect to the new one, but a second change is not possible and printed QR codes keep the old address, so choose the address before the first send.
How early should you send wedding invitations in the Philippines?
Philippine sources differ. The Juan Carlo catering blog says two to three months before, while Bride and Breakfast says the RSVP is usually sent at least six to eight weeks before. Work backwards from your caterer's final-headcount date.
When should the RSVP deadline be?
Bride and Breakfast suggests at least one month before the wedding, because vendors typically need a final headcount around then, with a final deadline at least two weeks before. Imbitasyon Ko has no deadline field, so write the date into your closing note or message.
What does the Free plan hide from guests on an invitation?
Guests on a Free invitation see only the first 10 entourage entries, and no gift details, music or love story. A bottom band inviting guests to create their own invitation also shows. The editor and preview show everything, so check the live page.
How many guests can you invite on the Free plan?
Twenty personal guest links. If a pasted list would take you past 20, the whole batch is refused with an error, so nothing disappears silently. Standard and Premium have no cap on personal links.
