Wedding Thank You Messages: 45 Examples for Every Recipient

Wednesday, September 2, 2026

Quick answer

A good wedding thank you message is three to five sentences: name the gift or the moment you remember, say how you will use it or what it meant, and close with thanks. Send everything within a month of the wedding, wedding party and parents first, and never write the amount of a money gift.

Wording is the part couples finish in an evening. What stalls the job for three months is the list: 180 names, some who came, some who gave, some who did both, and a few who did neither but wrote you a message anyway. Those groups get different notes, and nothing in your planning files sorts them for you.

This page gives you 45 message examples grouped by situation, the deadline the published sources disagree on, and a way to build the thank-you list from data your wedding already produced.

A stack of guest cards on the left, with three arrows fanning out to three trays holding a seat icon, a gift box, and a phone with a chat bubble; a calendar page sits in the corner

What a wedding thank you message needs

Paperlust uses a simple three-part formula and keeps most cards to three to five sentences: name the specific gift or gesture, connect it to your life or share a memory from the wedding, and close with a forward-looking personal note. The same page advises sending the wedding party and your parents their notes in the first two weeks.

[Name],
Thank you for [the specific gift, or being at the wedding].
[How you will use it, or the moment you remember from the day.]
[One forward-looking line: "We hope to see you soon."]
With love, [Your names]

Two more rules. Name something specific, and never write a number. Nuptials.ph says not to state the amount of money or credits and suggests an adjective like "generous". That applies to a cheque and to a GCash transfer, where the receipt already shows the amount.

When to send: one month or three?

SourceDeadline it gives
Bride and BreakfastNot more than three months after the gift was given
Nuptials.phWithin two weeks is acceptable; not later than a month after the wedding
ZolaOne to three months of the wedding
PaperlustWithin three months, ideally four to eight weeks; wedding party and parents in two weeks

The clocks start at different points, the gift or the wedding. Pick the strictest and you are safe under all of them: one month after the wedding for everyone, and the wedding party and parents first. If you must miss the date, miss it for the long personal notes, not the one-line acknowledgements.

Who gets which message

Split the list before you write. There are four groups, and each needs a different first sentence.

GroupWhat they didWhat the note acknowledges
Came, no giftShowed up, often travelledTheir presence, named specifically
Came and gaveBothThe moment, then the gift
Gave, did not comeSent something, missed the dayThe gift, and that they were missed
Neither, but sent wishesLeft a message on your invitation pageThe message itself

Send one note per household, and split the list with your spouse, so each of you writes to the people you know better (Nuptials.ph gives the same advice). Then use the sections below.

Your gift arrived with such a kind note. Thank you, [Name]. We wished you were with us, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you in person.

Thank you messages for principal sponsors and other sponsors

You asked them in person, months before the wedding. A note that thanks them only for showing up misses what they gave. Principal sponsors are the wedding's ninong and ninang. See how to ask them and how they appear on your invitation.

Dear [Ninong or Ninang name], thank you for standing with us as one of our principal sponsors. Your guidance before the wedding and your presence at the altar meant more than any gift. We hope you will always be part of our family's story.
Thank you, [Name], for accepting our request and for being our principal sponsor. Your support gave us confidence on the day. We will always be grateful.
Thank you for the advice, the patience and the time. Being a sponsor at our wedding was a big role, and you carried it beautifully. We hope to make you proud.
Thank you for walking with us through the planning and the wedding day. We could not have asked for better sponsors than you and [partner's name].
Thank you for being our [candle, veil or cord] sponsor. Having you beside us during that part of the ceremony meant a lot, and we are grateful for your love.

Thank you messages for parents and in-laws

Mom and Dad, thank you for everything that led to this day: the sacrifices we saw and the ones we did not. We love you, and we promise to keep our home as full of care as the one you built.
Thank you for welcoming me into your family. Your kindness on the day, and in all the months before it, made me feel at home. I am grateful for you.
Thank you for [paying for item] and, more than that, for believing in us. We are grateful for every part you played.

Thank you messages for the wedding party

Thank you for standing beside me, [Name]. You calmed me before the aisle, fixed my [veil or tie] and kept me laughing. I could not have asked for a better [maid of honor or best man].
Thank you for the errands, the late-night group calls and the patience. Being our [bridesmaid or groomsman] was a big job, and you did it with a smile.
Thank you for being part of our entourage. Seeing you all together up there made the day feel even bigger. We hope we can be there for you when it is your turn.
Thank you for giving up your weekends for our fittings and rehearsals. We noticed, and we will not forget it.

Thank you messages for guests who travelled or watched online

Name the trip or the city. A message identical to the local one wastes the effort they made. See guests abroad and the livestream guide.

Thank you for flying all the way from [city]. Knowing what it took to be there made your presence even more special. We hope you had time to enjoy [place] too.
You crossed [a province or an ocean] to celebrate with us. Thank you, [Name]. Our door is open whenever you are in town.
Thank you for watching the livestream from [place] and for the messages during the ceremony. It felt like you were sitting beside us. We will send you the photos soon.
We saw your message when we opened the gifts, and it made us tear up. Thank you for joining from [city]; we felt you there.
Thank you for making the trip despite [flight delays, a long drive, the rain]. We are so glad you made it, [Name].

Thank you messages for family and friends who helped

Thank you for taking care of [the guest list at the door, the flowers, the program] so we could enjoy the day. We noticed how hard you worked, and we are so grateful.
Thank you for hosting us [the night before, at your home]. Your kindness kept us calm when we needed it most.
Thank you for [singing, reading, playing] at our wedding. Your part made the moment more special than we could have planned.

Thank you messages for vendors and suppliers

Mention one specific thing they fixed. Do not use wording that reads like a request for a review.

Thank you, [Name], for a smooth and beautiful day. You handled [specific thing] so calmly that we never had to worry. We would gladly recommend you.
The photos are lovely, and you made us feel at ease in front of the camera. Thank you for your patience and your eye.
Thank you for taking care of every detail, from [specific thing] to [specific thing]. We felt looked after all day.

Thank you messages for wishes on your invitation page

Quote a phrase from what they wrote. The Wishes & Prayers tab on the RSVP dashboard shows each message next to the name.

Thank you for the message you left on our invitation page: "[a phrase of theirs]". We read every message after the wedding, and yours is the line we keep repeating.
Your message on our invitation, "[a phrase of theirs]", made us smile long before the wedding. Thank you, and thank you for being there.

Short chat, SMS, email and social post messages

Messenger reaches guests where they already are: Meltwater's 2026 roundup of the Global Digital Report calls it "the country's preferred messaging app". Keep chat messages to three lines and personalise the first one.

Hi [Name]! Thank you so much for coming to our wedding. Seeing you there made our day. We will send our photos soon.
Hi [Name], thank you for coming to our wedding and for the [gift]. We really appreciate it. [Your names]
Thank you for the lovely gift, [Name]! We are using it already. Coffee on us soon?
Subject: Thank you from [Your names]. Dear [Name], thank you for celebrating with us on [date]. [One specific memory.] We hope to see you soon.
Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us! We felt every hug and every prayer. Special thanks to our families, our sponsors and our wedding team.
Thank you all for making our wedding the best day of our lives! We are still smiling. Photos coming soon!

Thank you cards inside the favor

A card tucked into the wedding favor is written before the day, so it cannot name a gift. Keep it to attendance.

Thank you for celebrating with us today. Your presence made our wedding what it was. With love, [Your names]
Thank you for being here. Please take this small token home with our gratitude.

Build the list from data you already have

If you sent a digital invitation, four of the five rows below are recorded (check-in on the Premium plan only), and one is not.

What you needWhere it livesWhat you can do with it
Who was invited, and by groupGuest list exportCSV of names, groups, tags, phone, notes
Who said they were comingSame export, rsvp columnIntent only, not attendance
Who actually walked inCheck-in screenPremium plan (₱999); not in the export
Who left you a messageWishes tab on the RSVP dashboardRead on screen; no export
Who gave whatNowhere in the productYou keep this list by hand

The export writes name,group,tags,phone,max_persons,invite_sent,opened,rsvp,rsvp_persons,notes,link, which is enough to build a mail merge. Read the rsvp column for what it is: what someone told you before the wedding. The gap between RSVPs and the final headcount is the group you would otherwise thank for attending when they did not.

Imbitasyon Ko never touches money. Gift sections only display account details, so nothing in the product records who gave what. Bride and Breakfast's advice is the workable one: as gifts arrive, take note of who gave what. Do it in a new column of the same spreadsheet, on the night the gift arrives.

Card, chat or both

Card inside the favorEveryone who attendedWritten before the day, so it cannot be specific

Nuptials.ph accepts a digital route too, suggesting Canva cards sent by email or Facebook Messenger. Your export holds phone numbers, not Messenger handles, so a Messenger round is manual. Sort the spreadsheet by group and do one group per night.

What to skip

  • A public thank-you post as a substitute. It is fine as an addition, but no one reads it as addressed to them.
  • Amounts, always, including "your ₱5,000 went to the honeymoon".
  • Apologies for being late. Send the note; an apology makes the lateness the subject.
  • One message copied to everyone in a group chat. Guests notice this version.

If you want a shortcut that is still honest, write one opening line per group and personalise only the second sentence for each guest. Replying to the congratulations that arrived before the wedding is a different job with different wording, and it does not count against this list.

Frequently asked questions

What do you write in a wedding thank you message?

Name the specific gift or the moment you remember, say how you will use it or why it mattered, and close by thanking them again. Three to five sentences is enough for most guests, and the examples on this page are grouped by situation.

When should you send wedding thank you messages?

Send them within a month of the wedding. Published advice ranges from two weeks to three months, so a one-month deadline keeps you safe under all of it, with the wedding party and your parents thanked in the first two weeks.

How do you thank guests for a money gift or a GCash gift?

Thank them for the generosity and say what you will use it for, but never state the amount. Nuptials.ph advises using a word like generous instead of a number.

How do you thank guests who gave a gift but did not attend?

Lead with the fact that they were missed, then thank them for the gift and say how you are using it.

Should you send a thank you message by chat or a printed card?

Use a printed or handwritten card for sponsors, elders and large gifts, and a personal chat message for friends and colleagues. A copy-pasted chat message reads as an afterthought.

Do you need to thank guests who came but gave no gift?

Yes. Their presence is the thing to acknowledge, so name a specific moment with them at the wedding instead of a generic thanks.

Should the couple write the thank you notes together?

Split the list between you and write to the people each of you knows better. Nuptials.ph gives the same advice.
