Wedding Gift Ideas Philippines: 25 Gifts and How Much to Give

Thursday, August 27, 2026

Quick answer

Cash in an envelope with your full name on it is the safest wedding gift in the Philippines, unless the invitation points to a registry or says no gifts. No official amount exists. One rule of thumb is to cover roughly your plate, and Nuptials.ph (Jun 2021) reports that most guests give around ₱2,000 to ₱5,000.

Most lists of wedding gift ideas start with the object. In the Philippines the order runs the other way: cash or an object first, then how much, then how the gift reaches the couple. This article follows that order and then gives 25 gift ideas by budget, including experiences and cash. Peso figures come from named sources, and where no source publishes a number, the article says so.

Read the invitation before you shop

The couple has usually already told you what they want. The signal is in what the invitation does and does not include. The table is our reading of common signals, not a published rule.

How much cash to give

No government agency publishes wedding gift norms in the Philippines, so every figure here is one named source's suggestion, not a measured average.

Source and dateWhat it saysHow to use it
Nuptials.ph, Feb 2024Gift roughly equals the price of the meal plus the couple's giveawaysYour starting formula
Nuptials.ph, Jun 2021"Most guests give around PHP2000-PHP5000" (₱2,000 to ₱5,000), rising with cost and closenessOne data point for a typical guest, not a scale

Read together, the plate rule applied to Storia's estimated range lands at roughly ₱2,000 to ₱3,000, inside the band Nuptials.ph reports. That is arithmetic on two sources, not a published scale. Ask whether a caterer's per-head price includes service charge and VAT before you do the sum. Our cost breakdown shows the couple's side of the same math.

As a couple or family. No source we found says how to split. Applied literally, the Nuptials.ph formula is one plate plus giveaway per person eating, which is our derivation, not a published rule. Ask the caterer whether children's plates cost less, and write every name on one envelope.

Sponsors and entourage. Nuptials.ph says principal sponsors are "generally expected to give monetary gifts," and that entourage and secondary sponsors typically give a bit more than the average guest. It gives no peso figure, and we found none from a source we trust. If you are one of them, ask the couple or a family member what is usual for their circle. Our principal sponsors guide covers the role itself. Gifts also go the other way: what couples give their bridesmaids, groomsmen and sponsors is in our entourage gift ideas guide. If you are close family and want to give the bride a keepsake to wear on the day, our something old, something new guide has ideas.

Tight budget. Nuptials.ph says you "shouldn't be pressured to give more than you feel comfortable." A ₱500 gift may not cover a plate, and that is acceptable. Give as a group: four officemates pooling ₱1,000 each buy something the couple will keep. No source sets a rule for splitting, so agree on it with the others.

Not attending. There is no plate to cover, and Nuptials.ph says no known rule requires a gift. The amount is up to you. Before, during or after the wedding all work, though it suggests the couple receive it while the celebration still feels current. Send it rather than carrying it; the GCash guide covers the wording.

Linens, cookware, coffee makers, wine, chopping boards, robes, towels, frames, spa visits, diffusers, speakers, luggage tags, headphones, spice jars and mattresses appear in Nuptials.ph's 2024 list. Care packages, matching sets, comfort meals, honeymoon upgrades, advance anniversary gifts and DIY art come from its 2021 last-minute list. Its own list concedes that "gifting mattresses... can be quite cumbersome due to the mattress' size and weight," which is why that row says delivered. Vouchers, the group-funded registry item and the transfer with a video message are our additions, not from Nuptials.ph. Nuptials.ph also says to include a short note with any gift so the couple can thank you afterward. Keep it to a thank-you for the invitation and your best wishes. If you choose an advance anniversary gift, the anniversary gifts by year list shows that paper is the traditional first-year theme.

Picking in thirty seconds:

  • The couple already lives together. Nuptials.ph notes that some couples have no room for more appliances and prefer cash. Choose an experience (spa, dinner, voucher) or cash.
  • They are moving into a new place. Choose one durable household item, or fund a registry item with friends.
  • You are far away. Send a transfer with a video message, both before the day.
  • You are short of time. A delivered meal or a voucher needs no shipping and no wrapping.

What to avoid, and why

This is our advice, not a published rule.

AvoidWhy it fails
Anything needing assemblyIt arrives as a heavy flat-pack box and becomes a chore in the couple's first week home
Bulky boxed appliances carried to the venueSomeone must haul it from gift table to car to hotel room, on the couple's busiest night
Off-registry substitutesThe couple listed what they wanted; a "better" alternative second-guesses them
Duplicates of the obviousTwo rice cookers and three photo frames is what happens when every guest shops the same list
Loose cashUse an envelope with your name and the couple's names written on it

For anything large, buy online and have it delivered to the couple's home after the wedding, with a card at the reception saying it is coming.

Getting it there on the day

  1. Write your full name on the envelope or card. Not a nickname. The couple is matching gifts to a guest list of two hundred people, weeks later.
  2. Bring it to the reception. Nuptials.ph describes a "wishing well," a large cash dropbox on the gift table. Envelopes go in that box, objects on the table.
  3. Hand cash to a person if there is no box. Ask a coordinator or a family member at the entrance table who is collecting gifts.
  4. Send digital gifts before the wedding day. A transfer that lands at 11 PM mid-reception is a notification nobody reads.
  5. Do not follow up asking whether it arrived. If you named yourself correctly, it did.

For the rest of the day as a guest, from RSVP to phones during the ceremony, see our Filipino wedding guest etiquette guide.

If you are the couple: make the choice easy

Guests overthink this, and duplicates and unwanted objects are the result. Nuptials.ph advises against printing a cash request on the invitation itself, since accepting an invitation should not read as an obligation, and suggests a separate insert instead. It also suggests listing around 5 to 20 registry items so guests have options. Our wording guide for monetary gifts covers the phrasing, and the registry guide covers where to register.

A digital invitation can carry gift or account details in its own section rather than in the invitation text. On Imbitasyon Ko that section is part of the Standard plan at ₱499, and the page only displays the details you enter; it never touches the money. Afterward, our thank-you message guide covers who to write to and when.

If you are deciding on the way to the venue: check the invitation for a signal, give cash in a named envelope when there is none, aim near the cost of your plate or what you comfortably can, and have anything bulky delivered after the wedding.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I give as a wedding gift in the Philippines?

No government agency or industry body sets an amount. Two anchors exist: give roughly the cost of your meal plus the couple's giveaway, and know that Nuptials.ph (Jun 2021) reports most guests give around ₱2,000 to ₱5,000. Give what you can afford comfortably, because you should not feel pressured to give more.

Is it okay to give cash as a wedding gift in the Philippines?

Yes. When the invitation shows account details or a fund note, the couple is asking for cash. When it shows nothing, cash in an envelope with your full name written on it is the default. Objects are the better choice when the couple has listed them.

How much should ninong and ninang give?

Nuptials.ph says principal sponsors are generally expected to give monetary gifts, and that entourage members and secondary sponsors typically give a bit more than an average guest. We found no peso figure for sponsors from a source we trust, so ask the couple or a family member what is usual for their circle.

What does no gifts mean on a wedding invitation?

Take it at its word. A card with a short handwritten note is enough. If you are unsure how the family reads it, ask a member of the entourage rather than guessing.

Do I have to give a wedding gift if I cannot attend?

No. Nuptials.ph says no known rule requires a gift when you skip a wedding, and the amount is up to you because there is no plate to cover. You can send it before, during or after the wedding, ideally while the celebration still feels current.

What should you not give as a wedding gift?

Skip anything that needs assembly, bulky boxed appliances carried to the venue, off-registry substitutes and duplicates of common items. For anything large, order it online and have it delivered to the couple's home after the wedding.

Can friends pool money for a group wedding gift?

Yes. Pooling lets four officemates give one gift the couple will keep instead of four small ones. No source sets a rule for the split, so agree on the amount with whoever else is chipping in.
