How to Share Wedding Photos With Guests: 6 Ways + QR Steps
Friday, September 4, 2026
Quick answer
Create one shared album before the wedding, let guests add to it, print its link as a QR code for the reception tables, and send the link again with your thank-you message. For full resolution, use an iCloud shared album made on iOS 27, a Dropbox file request, or Google Photos if uploaders back up in Original quality.
Three things decide how to share wedding photos with guests: who is allowed to upload, what the service does to resolution, and how long the link stays alive. Below are six methods compared on exactly those, using each service's own help pages (checked October 1, 2026), plus step-by-step setup for Google Photos, iCloud and Google Drive, a QR plan for the reception, and copy-ready messages.

The six methods, side by side
iCloud takes two rows because albums made on iOS 27 or later follow different rules from older ones.
| Method | Who can add photos | Account needed to add | Quality kept | Link life |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Photos shared album | Anyone with the link, unless you turn off Collaborate under Options | Google Account (profile shows beside uploads) | Depends on each uploader's backup setting: full only in Original quality | Until you reset or stop sharing |
| iCloud shared album, iOS 27 or later | Participants you allow | None: Apple says guests can join on the web | Original, full resolution | Until deleted; temporary albums, 30 days |
| iCloud shared album, iOS 26 or earlier | Subscribers you allow | Apple Account | 2048 px long edge; video 720p | Until deleted |
| Dropbox file request | Anyone with the request link | None | Full file, up to 2 GB each on Basic | Until you close the request |
| Google Drive link | You (viewers download) | None to view or download | Full file | Until you change access |
| Facebook shared album | Contributors you add | Not published | While the album exists | |
| WeTransfer (free) | Sender only | Not stated on the cited page | Full file | 3 days |
Sources: Google Photos sharing, Google shared album controls, Apple Shared Albums and Apple limits (both dated September 14, 2026), Dropbox file requests, Google Drive sharing, Facebook shared albums, WeTransfer (updated September 30, 2026).
On Facebook, only the album's creator can change its privacy, and the choices are Public, Friends of Album Contributors, or Album Contributors Only (Facebook). Contributors can also add other contributors.
Uploads have to land in someone's storage:
| Service | Free storage | Whose storage guest uploads use |
|---|---|---|
| 15 GB, shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos | Not stated by Google | |
| iCloud | 5 GB | Owner's, for albums made on iOS 27 or later |
| Dropbox Basic | 2 GB | Yours: file requests fill your account |
| WeTransfer Free | 10 transfers or 3 GB per rolling 30 days | Sender's allowance |
Sources: Google One, Apple iCloud storage, Dropbox plans, WeTransfer plan limits. Google's pages do not say whose storage an album contributor's photos count against, or state outright that adding needs an account. Its help shows each contributor's account profile picture beside what they add, so our reading is: plan on guests signing in to add. Viewing is simpler: Google says anyone with the link can view the album, and contacts without a Google Account can be sent a link.
iOS 27 changed iCloud shared albums
Older guides say iCloud shrinks photos and needs an Apple Account. Apple's September 2026 pages change that for new albums. Albums made on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 keep "original formats at full resolution," take up to 100 participants including the owner, and let friends and family contribute "even without an Apple Account or Apple device" (Apple, upgrading shared albums).
A few catches, all from Apple. Full-resolution uploads, including guests', count toward the owner's iCloud storage, and the free tier is 5 GB. Albums created earlier stay at the old limits until you upgrade them, and Apple says participants whose devices aren't on the latest software must update or view the album on iCloud.com. And "not all features are available in all countries or regions," so test the web link from an Android phone before you print anything.
Apple also offers temporary shared albums: up to 5,000 items, not counted toward storage, and deleted after 30 days. Save everything out of one before the month ends.
Step by step: three setups
Google Photos shared album (Android app, per Google's help page)
- Open Google Photos and sign in.
- Tap Photos, touch and hold the photos to include, then tap Create and Album.
- Enter a title and tap Done.
- Tap Share and choose who to share with, or create a link.
- For the table cards: select the album, tap Share, then Show QR Code. Screenshot it to print.
iCloud shared album (iOS 27 or later, per Apple)
- Open Photos, tap Collections, then Shared Albums.
- Tap the Add button, name the album and choose some photos.
- Tap Sharing Options: invite and approve people, or share with a link.
- Tap Done. To get the link, open the album, tap Manage Shared Album, then Invite Participants or Copy Album Link.
- If a guest can't add photos, tap Manage Shared Album, tap their name and check Can Add Photos.
Google Drive folder for the photographer's set (per Google)
- Put the edited photos in one folder and select it.
- Tap Share, then under General access tap Change.
- Select Anyone with the link, set the role to Viewer, and tap Copy link.
Google says viewers can download by default, and people with the link can open it "without signing in." Drive is for delivering, not collecting.
What happens to resolution
| Service or setting | What happens to the file | Print guidance from the service |
|---|---|---|
| Google Photos, Original quality | Same resolution you took it at | For large prints and banners |
| Google Photos, Storage saver | Photos over 16 MP resized to 16 MP; video over 1080p to 1080p | Up to 24 × 16 inches |
| Google Photos, Express | Photos over 3 MP resized to 3 MP; video over 480p to 480p | Up to 6 × 8 inches |
| iCloud album, iOS 27 or later | Original format, full resolution | Not stated |
| iCloud album, iOS 26 or earlier | 2048 px long edge; video up to 720p and 15 minutes | Not stated |
Sources: Google backup quality, Apple file types, Apple limits. If a relative might frame a guest's shot, it has to travel by a method that doesn't resize it.
How guest photos quietly disappear
| What happens | Result | Source |
|---|---|---|
| You remove a person from a Google Photos album | All their photos and comments are removed | |
| A guest leaves a Google Photos album | Everything they added is removed | |
| You delete an iCloud shared album | All its photos are permanently deleted | Apple |
| A temporary iCloud album reaches 30 days | The album is deleted | Apple |
| A Google Photos account is inactive 2 years | Content may be deleted | |
| A free WeTransfer link passes 3 days | The download expires | WeTransfer |
The fix is the same everywhere: copy guest photos into your own library. Apple says photos you save from a shared album stay in your library even if the album is deleted.
The reception plan
- Create the album a week before the wedding and add three prenup shots (shoot ideas). An empty album looks broken.
- Turn on adding, then test the link from a phone that isn't yours, on mobile data.
- Print the QR code on table cards and one sign near the entrance, then test a printed card on an Android phone and an iPhone. Our QR code guide covers print size.
- Ask the host to announce it once, after dinner starts. Our emcee script has the program slots.
- Keep your wedding hashtag as a second net for photos posted publicly.
- Send the link again with your thank-you message, about a week later.
Our advice: ask for two or three favorites on the night and the rest at home, since venue Wi-Fi is unreliable. Never reset the link after the cards are printed. Google says turning link sharing off and on again creates a new link, and the old one stops working.
Copy-ready messages
Table card:
Took a photo today? Scan this code to add it to our wedding album. Two or three favorites tonight is perfect; the rest can wait until you're home.
Host announcement:
The couple would love to see the day through your eyes. Scan the code on your table to add your photos to their shared album. Thank you!
Follow-up with the thank-you:
Thank you for celebrating with us! Our album is still open for your photos, and the photographer's set is here too: [LINK]. Please add yours by [DATE].
To your photographer:
Hi [NAME]! When you deliver our photos, can guests download from your gallery, and at what size? We'd like to share one link with everyone.
When a guest asks you to take a photo down
Remove it and tell them you have. Apple says the owner of an iCloud shared album can delete photos, videos or comments from anyone. In Google Photos, removing a person from the album removes everything they added, so use it only if they're happy to lose all of it. If the photo was reposted elsewhere, ask the person who reposted it too.
Our advice: agree between yourselves before the wedding whether photos of children go into a shared album at all, and put that in the table card if the answer is no.
Passing on the photographer's photos
- Download the delivery the day it arrives. A free WeTransfer link lasts three days.
- Move the files into an account you own.
- Share one clean folder, not the one where your own edits live.
- Name it
SURNAME-SURNAME-YYYY-MM-DDwith three subfolders: guest uploads, photographer, our picks.
Our advice: keep the album open for at least a year, since relatives may ask again around the first anniversary. The same day edit guide covers keeping the video file too.
Our own gallery on Imbitasyon Ko works the other way round: you upload photos to your invitation page (2 on Free, 15 on Standard, 30 on Premium) to show guests before the wedding. Guests can leave written wishes there, but they can't upload photos, so pair it with one of the albums above. For captions on the photos you post, see our wedding photo caption ideas.
Choose by the strictest column that matters to you, create the album before the wedding, print the QR code, and leave the sharing settings alone until the uploads stop.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to share wedding photos with guests?
One shared album with one link, created before the wedding, shown as a QR code at the reception and sent again in your thank-you message. A Dropbox file request and an iCloud shared album made on iOS 27 or later are the two options here where guests need no account to upload.
How can guests upload wedding photos without an app?
A Dropbox file request lets anyone send you files whether or not they have a Dropbox account, up to 2 GB per file on the free Basic plan. Apple says iCloud shared albums made on iOS 27 or later let people join and contribute on the web without an Apple Account or Apple device.
Do guests need a Google Account to see a Google Photos shared album?
Not to view it. Google says anyone with the link can view the album, and for contacts without a Google Account you can send a link. Adding photos shows the guest's Google Account profile picture beside them, so plan on guests signing in to add.
Does an iCloud shared album reduce photo quality?
It depends on the album. Apple says shared albums created on iOS 27 or later store photos in their original formats at full resolution. Albums created on iOS 26 or earlier reduce photos to 2048 pixels on the long edge and deliver video at up to 720p.
How do I make a QR code for a wedding photo album?
In the Google Photos app, select the album, tap Share, then Show QR Code. Google suggests taking a screenshot of the code if you want to print it. Test the printed card on an Android phone and an iPhone before the wedding.
Can I stop guests from adding photos later?
Yes. In Google Photos, turn off Collaborate under Options to stop others adding, or turn link sharing off and on again to replace the link. Do it after uploads have stopped, and never after the QR cards are printed.
