Bachelor Party Philippines: 23 Ideas, Who Pays and When

Wednesday, September 23, 2026

Quick answer

In the Philippines the best man usually plans the bachelor party, and Nuptials.ph says the cost is either covered by him or split equally among the groomsmen. Bride and Breakfast puts it 2 to 4 weeks before the wedding. It can be a dinner, an outing or a full day out.

The best man plans it, and it happens a few weeks before the wedding. On cost, Nuptials.ph gives two options: the best man covers it, or the groomsmen split it evenly. Below: the facts in one table, 23 ideas sorted by effort, seven destinations for a trip, how to split the bill, and five group chat messages the best man can copy.

For the bride's side of the calendar, see despedida de soltera vs bridal shower.

The short version: who plans, who pays, when

The sources are Nuptials.ph's bachelor party guide (a Philippine wedding magazine, 2022) and Bride and Breakfast's pre-wedding timeline (a Philippine wedding blog, 2017).

QuestionWhat the source saysSource
Who plans itUsually the best man, "but other people can also plan it"Nuptials.ph
Who plans it"The Best Man and groomsmen"Bride and Breakfast
Who paysThe best man covers it, or it is split "equally among the groomsmen"Nuptials.ph
When"2-4 weeks before the wedding day"Bride and Breakfast
Who is invited"Close friends and family of the groom (usually male)"Bride and Breakfast
What it can beNot only a party: "an outing, a dinner, or an activity that the groom enjoys"Bride and Breakfast

Is it a Filipino tradition? The sources split. Nuptials.ph says it "isn't typically part of the Filipino wedding traditions," though "a lot of groomsmen are now incorporating this concept." Kasal.com, excerpting Essays on Philippine Culture (Alvina and Sta. Maria, 1987), calls it "the traditional Bachelor's party". Our reading: it is optional either way, so the only question that matters is what the groom wants.

Our entourage duties guide lists the bachelor party among the best man's jobs, next to the rings and the toast. His speech has its own guide: best man speech.

23 bachelor party ideas, by effort

Sources: Nuptials.ph (N), a bachelor party ideas post from Juan Carlo, a Metro Manila caterer's blog (JC), and Bride and Breakfast's joint party piece (B&B). Each row is one idea; variants of the same idea are merged.

Rows 12, 13, 14 and 16 are drinking games. Our advice: pick one, not all four, and book the ride home before the first round. JC's own road-trip tip is a designated driver.

Who pays, and how to split it

Nuptials.ph gives the Philippine answer in one sentence: "there's the option of letting the best man cover the costs or just splitting it equally among the groomsmen."

The groom's own share is the part to settle early. Zola, a US wedding site, says "everyone except the groom" typically shares the costs, with one exception: a "far-off and/or expensive destination," where the groom might pay his own travel. We found no Philippine source on the groom's share, so treat that as one market's norm, not a rule here.

The joint party (idea 23) is the cheapest big option. Bride and Breakfast says combining both groups "can save everyone some money" because "the cost gets shared by more people." It adds that both groups get to know each other before the wedding.

Our advice: post a per-head estimate before anyone books, and let each person say privately if it is too much. For how the rest of the wedding is split, see who pays for what in a Filipino wedding.

Where to go, if it's a trip

Esquire Philippines (Paolo Chua, December 11, 2019) lists seven bachelor party destinations (archived copy; the live page blocks automated access). It is a 2019 list, so check what is open before you book.

DestinationWhat Esquire suggests there
Siargao, Surigao del NorteSurfing, Magpupunko's tidal pools, and parties at night
Laoag, Ilocos NorteDune bashing or sandboarding at the La Paz Sand Dunes
Boracay, AklanA laid-back weekend: a helicopter tour, an ATV up Mount Luho, dive sites
Nasugbu, BatangasRent a yacht for the weekend
Mactan Island, CebuWater activities, with Cebu City close by for a night out
SiquijorCliff diving at Salagdoong Beach, Cantabon Cave, Cambugahay Falls
El Nido, PalawanBeaches, ending with the zipline at Las Cabanas Beach

When to hold it

Bride and Breakfast says "2-4 weeks before the wedding day." Its timeline puts the bride's bachelorette party in the same window, so compare dates with the maid of honor before you fix yours.

Kasal.com's stag-party page opens with an oft-repeated story that the groom "would have a party for his friends the night before he was to marry." Our advice: don't. Leave at least a few days of buffer, more if the plan involves travel.

Five group chat messages the best man can copy

These are our wording. Fill in the brackets and paste. Keep this chat separate from the wedding planning chat, so the bride's side doesn't see what they shouldn't.

  1. First message to the groomsmen:
Hi guys! [Groom's Name]'s bachelor party is on [Day], [Month] [Date]. Plan so far: [Idea]. Please reply by [Date] if you're in, so I can book.
  1. Budget check before booking:
Quick budget check for [Groom's Name]'s bachelor party: the estimate is about ₱[Amount] each, split equally among us. The groom doesn't pay; his share is already included in that amount. If that's too much, message me privately and we'll adjust.
  1. Final headcount reminder:
Last call! I'm confirming the booking for [Groom's Name]'s bachelor party on [Date]. If you haven't replied, please tell me today whether you're coming.
  1. Private message to the groom:
Before we plan anything: quiet dinner or a big night out? Anything or anyone you want to skip? Just tell me honestly and I'll handle the rest.
  1. Day-before logistics:
Tomorrow: meet at [Place] at [Time]. Bring [Items]. [Name] is our designated driver. Payment of ₱[Amount] to me by [Date]. See you!

Etiquette: do and avoid

DoAvoid
Ask the groom what kind of night he wantsAssuming every groom wants the loud version
Agree the budget and split before bookingBooking first and splitting the bill later
Let the groom make the list, and invite only people on the wedding list (Zola)Inviting people the couple hasn't invited to the wedding
Keep photos off shared wedding feeds unless the groom agreesPosting where the bride's family or suppliers will see it first
Leave a few days before the weddingHolding it the night before

The groom Kasal.com interviewed in its stag-party piece, who had his own in 1994, gives two rules: "Never have your stag party with people whom you do not trust," and, on photos, "A stag party is one occasion that does not merit any pictures." One man's view, but a fair default.

Should the bachelor party go on your wedding invitation?

No. Imbitasyon Ko is built for the wedding invitation. Its cover always reads "The Wedding of" above the couple's names, and every event you add is shown to everyone who opens it. The bachelor party belongs in the group chat. If you already send the wedding invitation as a link, our guide on sharing a digital invitation covers that part.

The job is smaller than it looks. Confirm the best man is running it, ask the groom what he wants, pick one idea from the table, agree the split before booking, and hold it two to four weeks out.

Frequently asked questions

Who pays for the bachelor party?

Nuptials.ph gives two options: the best man covers the costs, or they are split equally among the groomsmen. Zola, a US source, says everyone except the groom usually shares the cost, unless the party is at a far-off or expensive destination. Agree on the split before anything is booked.

Who plans the bachelor party?

Nuptials.ph says planning usually falls to the best man, but other people can also plan it. Bride and Breakfast's pre-wedding timeline names the best man and groomsmen.

When should the bachelor party be held?

Bride and Breakfast's timeline puts it 2 to 4 weeks before the wedding day. Our advice is to avoid the night before the wedding and leave a few days of buffer, more if the plan involves travel.

Is a bachelor party a Filipino tradition?

Sources differ. Nuptials.ph says it isn't typically part of Filipino wedding traditions but that many groomsmen now plan one. A 1987 essay excerpted on Kasal.com calls it the traditional bachelor's party. Either way, it is optional.

Who should be invited to a bachelor party?

Bride and Breakfast lists close friends and family of the groom, usually male. Zola says the list is up to the groom, and that pre-wedding party invitations should only go to people who are also invited to the wedding.

Can the bachelor and bachelorette party be combined?

Yes. Bride and Breakfast says a joint party can save everyone money because the cost is shared by more people, and it lets both groups get to know each other before the wedding.
