Wedding Processional & Recessional Songs Philippines: 60+ Picks

Wednesday, August 26, 2026

Quick answer

A Filipino church wedding needs music for seven slots: entourage processional, bridal march, vows, offertory, communion, pictorial and recessional. Choose sacred music and hymns first and check classical pieces with the parish: the Archdiocese of Palo allows only sacred, religious and liturgical music.

A Filipino church wedding is scored slot by slot, not as one playlist. You need an entourage processional, a bridal march, a soft piece for the vows, the offertory, communion, a pictorial set and a recessional: about ten songs. And your parish can refuse any of them.

Below: the slots, 60+ titles sorted by slot and into sacred or classical versus popular (our classification), the rules that decide it, what musicians cost, and a song list you can send to the parish office.

The seven music slots, and how many songs each needs

Augustine Music and Events, a Filipino wedding musician group, publishes its church music list as slots. This is its structure, with the moment each slot covers.

SlotWhen it playsSongs to pick
ProcessionalThe entourage walks inOne
Bridal marchThe bride's entranceOne
Exchange of vowsSoft background during the vowsOne soft instrumental
OffertoryPreparation of the giftsOne
CommunionHoly CommunionOne
PictorialPhotos inside the churchFour
RecessionalThe couple walks outOne, or "light festive music"

That is ten songs. Sing to the Lord, a US bishops' document on liturgical music, names two more optional moments: a song or hymn of praise may follow the rings, and during the veiling and other customary actions "an appropriate psalm or song may be sung" (no. 222). Where those rites fall is in our Catholic wedding ceremony order guide, and who carries them out is in the secondary sponsors guide.

Your parish decides before you do

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Palo's guidelines for wedding suppliers state: "Only sacred, religious and liturgical music is allowed to be sung and played during the wedding ceremony. Secular and popular music are not allowed during the liturgical wedding celebration. The couple may be required to submit a list of songs to be sung for the Processional March and the Mass proper." It also says pre-selection of the music "is highly encouraged."

That is one archdiocese, not a national rule. The reasoning appears in Sing to the Lord, approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2007: a US document, not binding on a Philippine parish (read it as a diocesan-hosted PDF). It says "Secular music, even though it may emphasize the love of the spouses for one another, is not appropriate for the Sacred Liturgy" (no. 220), and asks a diocese or parish to have "a definite but flexible policy" on wedding music (no. 219). Ask yours for it in writing.

60+ song options, sorted by slot

The table combines the Augustine church list with the traditional entourage processionals and the modern and OPM bridal marches in Nuptials.ph's list of wedding march songs. The two columns are our classification, not theirs: the left is classical music, hymns and Christian songs; the right is popular songs, show tunes and film themes, the kind the Palo rule excludes. Both sources list the right-hand titles as options anyway, which is why you ask first.

RecessionalTrumpet Voluntary; A Midsummer Night's Dream (the Mendelssohn march); The Four SeasonsLove Changes Everything

Three things to notice. The offertory and communion rows are not automatically safe: the same list puts a West Side Story song under offertory. "Classical" is not the same as "sacred": Wagner's Bridal Chorus comes from an opera, Lohengrin, so ask about it too. And Nuptials lists its OPM bridal marches for couples who want a personal entrance, without saying whether any parish accepts them.

The bridal march is where the rule bites

SourceIts position on the bride's entrance
Archdiocese of Palo (archdiocesan guideline)Sacred, religious and liturgical music only
Sing to the Lord (US bishops)Secular music is not appropriate for the Sacred Liturgy, even love songs
Augustine Music (Filipino musicians)Offers popular ballads next to the traditional march
Nuptials.ph (Philippine publication)Lists modern pop and OPM bridal marches; lists Wagner and Mendelssohn as entourage processionals

Nuptials.ph notes that the bridal march is usually a different song from the entourage processional, to change the mood for the bride. Settle which column you are in before you book anyone. A refused song moves to the reception, where nobody can veto it: our wedding songs list by reception slot covers the grand entrance through the send-off.

The recessional, and the four songs around it

The recessional is one slot on paper and two in practice. Augustine offers one choice for the walk out and a separate pictorial slot of four songs for photos inside the church. Four of your ten songs play while nobody is walking anywhere, so pick pieces that loop well. That list puts the pictorial before the recessional; your parish may run it the other way.

Palo names "the Processional March and the Mass proper" as what you may have to submit. The recessional sits after the dismissal, and the pictorial is outside the rite, and neither is named. Ask the officiant whether the rule reaches them.

What musicians cost, and who hires them

Do not assume the church supplies anyone. Santuario de San Antonio Parish in Makati states in its wedding requirements that "The Parish do not provide musicians."

Our advice: get quotes from at least two church music providers, and ask each one four things. Does the quote cover the pictorial set? Can they play every slot as an instrumental if the parish refuses the vocal? Do songs outside their repertoire cost extra? When is the final list due?

The song list to send the parish

Five things go to the parish office and the musicians in one document: the slot, the title, the performer or composer, a sacred alternative for every slot the parish controls, and the deadline. Copy this and fill it in:

WEDDING MUSIC LIST: [Bride] & [Groom], [Parish], [Date and time]. Processional: [title], alternative [title]. Bridal march: [title], alternative [title]. Exchange of vows: [instrumental title]. Offertory: [title]. Communion: [title]. Pictorial (4): [title], [title], [title], [title]. Recessional: [title]. Musicians: [group name, contact number]. Submitted to: [parish office staff name] on [date].

If you print a worship aid listing the songs, Sing to the Lord says participation aids "should also include proper copyright notices for permission to use copyrighted music in the program" (no. 224). Our program booklet guide covers what else goes on those pages.

Work in this order: get the parish policy in writing, fill the ten slots rather than picking favorites, keep a sacred alternative ready for every slot the parish controls, and book musicians before the list is due. Guests only need the call time and the church, and on a digital invitation like Imbitasyon Ko those stay editable if the parish moves your slot. Anything the church refuses moves to the reception, where the emcee script can cue it.

Frequently asked questions

What songs are played during a Catholic wedding in the Philippines?

Music is chosen slot by slot: the entourage processional, the bridal march, a soft piece during the vows, the offertory, communion, a pictorial set and the recessional. One Philippine musician group lists Canon in D and Trumpet Voluntary for the processional, and Panis Angelicus and Tanging Yaman for communion.

Can you use pop songs or OPM in a Catholic church wedding?

Often not during the ceremony itself. The Archdiocese of Palo says secular and popular music are not allowed during the liturgical wedding celebration, and a US bishops' document takes the same line. Rules vary by parish, so ask for your parish's policy in writing and move rejected songs to the reception.

What is the difference between the processional and the bridal march?

The processional plays while the entourage walks in, and the bridal march plays for the bride's own entrance. Philippine providers sell them as two separate choices, and Nuptials.ph describes the bridal march as usually a different song from the processional.

What is a good recessional song for a church wedding?

The Philippine list in this guide offers Trumpet Voluntary, the Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Four Seasons and Love Changes Everything, or simply light festive music. The recessional comes after the dismissal, so ask your officiant whether the parish rule still applies.

Does the church provide musicians for a wedding?

Do not assume so. Santuario de San Antonio Parish in Makati states that it does not provide musicians, so you hire a choir, string group or band yourself. Nuptials.ph puts a live wedding band at about 5,000 to 60,000 PHP.

How many songs do you need for a church wedding?

About ten. One Philippine provider offers one choice each for the processional, bridal march, vows, offertory, communion and recessional, plus four songs for the pictorial, so ten in total before any extra slot your parish adds.
