Save Money on a Wedding in the Philippines: Ranked by Pesos
Thursday, August 27, 2026
Quick answer
Cut guests first, then the catering style. Thirty fewer guests saves ₱15,000 to ₱30,000 at Nuptials.ph's ₱500 to ₱1,000 per head, or ₱60,000 to ₱90,000 at Storia's estimated ₱2,000 to ₱3,000. Ask every quote whether service charge and VAT are included, because hotels typically add 10% plus 12%.
Savings lists for Philippine weddings treat every tip as equal. Alternation's list has eleven tactics, none with a peso saving attached (Alternation, January 19, 2025). They are not equal. This guide covers 18 levers and sorts them by the pesos they move. Every figure is a named, dated source or arithmetic shown so you can redo it with your own quote. Where no source publishes a number, the table says so.

The number everything else multiplies
Catering is priced per head, so per-head rates set the size of most savings. The sources disagree, so this article prices the guest-count lever at a low and a high rate.
| Source | Rate per head | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Nuptials.ph, February 5, 2020 | ₱500 for a full-course meal, up to ₱1,000 for high-end dishes | Adds that catering takes 45 to 50 percent of a budget |
| Nuptials.ph, June 3, 2025 | ₱500 to ₱1,000 | For 30 to 50 guests |
| Storia, June 23, 2026 | Basic buffet ₱700 to ₱1,000; mid buffet ₱1,000 to ₱1,400; plated ₱1,400 to ₱1,800+ | Its own "estimated 2026 ranges" |
| Storia, July 4, 2026 | ₱2,000 to ₱3,000; "every 10 guests adds roughly ₱25,000" | A different Storia article, for catering on top of a venue |
Storia is a wedding-planning product blog, and its two guides do not agree with each other, so treat both as estimates. Get your own all-in quote. The full evidence is in how much a wedding costs in the Philippines.
Get the all-in price first
This is not a saving. It avoids a surprise. Storia (April 15, 2026) says hotels typically add a 10% service charge plus 12% VAT on top of the quoted per-head price, and that a ₱3,000 quote becomes ₱3,660. On 150 guests at ₱1,000 a head, 22% is ₱33,000. If VAT is also charged on the service charge, the uplift is 23.2%, or ₱34,800, and Storia's example would be ₱3,696, so ask which applies. Other venues may charge differently, which is why the question comes before any comparison.
Savings with a computed peso effect
Effects are our arithmetic on the sources shown. Tiers are set by the low end of each effect, and rows are sorted by the high end.
| Tier | Lever | Pesos saved | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large (low end ₱30,000+) | Invite 30 fewer guests, at Storia's rate | ₱60,000 to ₱90,000 | 30 × ₱2,000 to ₱3,000 (Storia, July 4, 2026), before the tables, chairs and favors that also shrink |
| Large (low end ₱30,000+) | Plated dinner to basic buffet, 150 guests | About ₱60,000 | 150 × (₱1,400 plated floor − ₱1,000 basic-buffet ceiling), Storia's estimates. A mid buffet at ₱1,000 to ₱1,400 can close the gap |
| Medium (₱10,000 to ₱29,999) | Invite 30 fewer guests, at Nuptials.ph's rate | ₱15,000 to ₱30,000 | 30 × ₱500 to ₱1,000 (Nuptials.ph, June 3, 2025) |
| Small (under ₱10,000) | Trim or skip favors, 100 guests | ₱5,000 to ₱15,000 | 100 × ₱50 to ₱150 (Nuptials.ph, June 3, 2025) |
| Small (under ₱10,000) | Digital instead of printed invitations, 150 copies | About ₱4,000 to ₱14,500 net | 150 × ₱30 to ₱100 = ₱4,500 to ₱15,000 (Nuptials.ph), minus ₱499 for the one-time Imbitasyon Ko Standard plan |
The two biggest levers are catering decisions made before you sign. See how to cut your guest list for the first and the intimate wedding guide for a smaller day.
Range gaps: the most a choice can move
These rows show the difference between the cheapest and dearest published figure, so they are upper bounds, not typical savings.
| Item | Published range | Gap |
|---|---|---|
| Gown | ₱5,000 to ₱100,000 "depending on your designer" (Metrobank, October 12, 2021); ₱5,000 to ₱20,000 (Nuptials.ph) | ₱95,000 (Metrobank); ₱15,000 (Nuptials.ph) |
| Photo and video | ₱5,000 to ₱75,000 (Metrobank); ₱10,000 to ₱30,000 for intimate weddings (Nuptials.ph) | ₱70,000 (Metrobank); ₱20,000 (Nuptials.ph) |
| Groom's suit | ₱3,000 to ₱15,000 (Metrobank) | ₱12,000 |
| Cake | ₱1,000 to ₱5,000 modest; custom "₱10,000 or more" (Nuptials.ph) | At least about ₱9,000 |
Photo and video is a fixed cost that lasts, so cutting it saves less than it seems. Alternation suggests asking a friend with a good camera, or a professional in your network looking for a first set of clients, and gives no peso figure.
Price ranges and unpriced levers: no saving computed
| Lever | What is published |
|---|---|
| Hall or home instead of a garden estate | Storia estimates (July 4, 2026): hall ₱5,000 to ₱20,000; home free plus ₱10,000 to ₱25,000 rentals; garden ₱15,000 to ₱50,000. Nuptials.ph: ₱10,000 to ₱50,000 |
| Civil or church ceremony | Civil under ₱10,000 including paperwork; church ₱5,000 to ₱25,000 (Nuptials.ph). Metrobank: church ₱6,000 to ₱15,000 |
| Simple rings | ₱5,000 to ₱10,000 per simple ring; custom ₱15,000 to over ₱50,000 per pair (Nuptials.ph) |
| DIY décor | Nuptials.ph styling budget ₱5,000 to ₱20,000; Alternation recommends DIY |
| Rent or buy second-hand attire | Alternation recommends it; no figure |
| Off-peak date or weekday | Nuptials.ph: December to February, June and weekends may cost more. Alternation: non-peak months or weekdays. No price given |
| Bundled venue and catering | Alternation: a "3-in-1 wedding package" can save the most; unquantified |
| Playlist instead of a band | Alternation; ask the band's rate |
| Cupcakes or donuts instead of dessert | Alternation; no figure |
| Budget rooms for out-of-town guests | Alternation; no figure |
One worked example, 150 guests
Start with 150 guests at a ₱1,400 plated quote, the floor of Storia's estimated plated range. Switching to the ₱1,000 ceiling of its basic buffet range closes a ₱400-a-head gap. That is the comparison against the basic buffet's upper end. Storia's mid buffet tops out at ₱1,400, so against that tier the gap can shrink to nothing. Cutting 30 guests then removes 30 plates at ₱1,000.
| Step | Guests | Rate | Food total | If hotel charges add 22% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plated quote | 150 | ₱1,400 | ₱210,000 | ₱256,200 |
| Switch to basic buffet | 150 | ₱1,000 | ₱150,000 | ₱183,000 |
| Cut 30 guests | 120 | ₱1,000 | ₱120,000 | ₱146,400 |
The two moves save ₱90,000 before charges, about 43% of the starting food bill. The last column applies the 10% service charge plus 12% VAT from Storia, summed as 22%, and only fits a venue that charges both. Swap in your own rates, because the order of the levers rarely changes.
Fine print that undoes a saving
| The saving | The catch |
|---|---|
| Buffet seconds | Nuptials.ph says guests may go back for seconds, so ask whether extra servings cost extra heads |
| A cheaper per-head quote | Nuptials.ph (February 5, 2020): a 100-guest package at ₱600 a plate still costs ₱60,000 if 95 confirm. Ask for the minimum. |
| A buffet | A mid buffet can cost as much as plated. Alternation says buffet only "depending on which is more affordable" in quotes |
| Bringing your own food or drinks | Nuptials.ph: venues with their own catering charge a fee whether or not they provide "the food or drink you bring in." See venue corkage |
| A bare community hall | Storia says many are a bare room, so budget for tables, chairs, cooling, sound and styling |
| Comparing two totals | One quote may include service charge and VAT and the other not. Ask, then compare. |
| A tight head count | Nuptials.ph advises adding 5 to 10 heads. At ₱1,000 a head, budget ₱5,000 to ₱10,000 for them. |
Two messages that cost nothing
Send these before you compare quotes.
Hello! We are planning a wedding for [number] guests on [date]. Please send an all-in quote that lists the per-head rate, whether service charge and VAT are included, the guaranteed minimum, and any out-of-town fee. Please quote buffet and plated for the same menu.
Hello! Please send your rental or package price for [date], what it includes, the overtime rate per hour, and the corkage fee for outside food, cake and drinks. Please also send a quote for a weekday on the same terms.
A sanity check on the total
Alternation ties budgets to guest counts: ₱50,000 for a "simple and intimate wedding" of 20 to 30 guests, ₱100,000 for 50 to 60, and ₱300,000 for 80 to 100 guests "with professional services." Read it as a curve that follows guest count. If your target and your list disagree, the list moves. Test your own split in the wedding budget guide, and see souvenir budgeting and digital vs printed invitations for two of the smaller levers.
Settle the guest count before you book anything, and ask every quote whether service charge and VAT are included. Those two moves shift more money than every DIY weekend.
Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest way to save money on a wedding in the Philippines?
Invite fewer guests, because catering is priced per head. Thirty fewer guests saves ₱15,000 to ₱30,000 at Nuptials.ph's ₱500 to ₱1,000 per head, and ₱60,000 to ₱90,000 at Storia's estimated ₱2,000 to ₱3,000. Switching from plated to a basic buffet is worth about ₱60,000 at 150 guests on Storia's estimates.
How much can you save with a buffet instead of a plated dinner?
On Storia's estimated 2026 ranges, a basic buffet ceiling of ₱1,000 is ₱400 a head below the ₱1,400 plated floor, or about ₱60,000 at 150 guests. Storia's mid buffet runs ₱1,000 to ₱1,400, so it can cost as much as plated. Alternation advises comparing quotes for that reason.
Do hotels add service charge and VAT to the wedding package price?
Storia (April 15, 2026) says hotels typically add a 10% service charge plus 12% VAT on top of the quoted per-head price, and that a ₱3,000 quote becomes ₱3,660. Ask each venue for the all-in price before you compare quotes.
Is a civil wedding cheaper than a church wedding?
Nuptials.ph says a civil wedding may cost less than ₱10,000 including paperwork and officiant fees, and a church wedding ₱5,000 to ₱25,000. Metrobank (October 12, 2021) puts a church at ₱6,000 to ₱15,000. The ranges overlap, so the ceremony saves less than catering does.
How much do printed wedding invitations cost?
Nuptials.ph (June 3, 2025) puts printed invitations at ₱30 to ₱100 each, so 150 copies cost ₱4,500 to ₱15,000. A digital invitation avoids the per-copy cost. Imbitasyon Ko's Standard plan is a one-time ₱499.
Does an off-peak date or weekday wedding save money?
Sources say so but publish no peso figure. Nuptials.ph says December to February, June and weekends may cost more. Ask your venue and caterer to quote your date and a weekday side by side.
How many extra guests should I budget for?
Nuptials.ph (February 5, 2020) advises adding about 5 to 10 heads to the catering count. At ₱1,000 a head that is ₱5,000 to ₱10,000 you should plan for rather than discover on the day.
